Things went catastrophically wrong. It was a real train wreck. We tried to {compensate|mitigate the situation, but it was like trying to stop a flood with a teaspoon. We're still picking up the debris and feeling the blow of this disaster.

This issue has spiraled out of control. It's a total disaster. We've tried just about everything to fix it, but nothing seems to work. At this point, it feels like we're toast. Honestly, I don't know what else to do. This is a nightmare of epic proportions.
That's So Cringe, It's Hilarious (In a Way)
Sometimes you stumble upon situations so horrifically bad that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to make sense of the sheer level of unadulterated absurdity and just resigns itself to fate, opting for laughter as a coping mechanism.
But then, you realize that it's not really hilarious. It's just plain terrible. And the laughter you were experiencing morphs into a groan.
In the end, you are left with a sense of confusion. You start ruminating about the nature of it all. Was this some kind of twisted art experiment?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?
A Disaster of Epic Proportions
The earthquake struck without warning, ravaging entire cities in its wake. Buildings collapsed like fragile toys, and the roar that followed was deafening. Dreadful Day Ever
It all started with a case of terrible hair. I couldn't do it to look decent. As I was scrambling out the door, I fell and spilled all over myself. To make matters worse, I was extremely behind schedule for a very important appointment.
I flustered. My {boss|teacher|was absolutely furious. I attempted to explain, but it was pointless.
The rest of the day was just as bad. Everything. I stay awake.
By the time I reached my destination, I was utterly defeated. This day, this terrible day will be forever remembered as the worst day ever.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous website events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to scream into a pillow.
